Everyone should have the possibility to make their own choices around sexuality and having children, without violating the rights of other people. That would make the world a better and happier place!
Yvonne Bogaarts is a passionate and internationally known advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Yvonne joined the Advocacy Department of Rutgers in 1997, and from 2003 has served as Manager Advocacy. Her work on realizing SRHR of young people included supporting setting up a Dutch and a European youth organization, now called CHOICE and YouAct, respectively. Yvonne has been a member in numerous networks, including Share-Net Netherlands, as well as served as vice-chair of EuroNGOs. Yvonne was one of the founding members of the Universal Access to Female Condoms (UAFC) joint programme. She was actively engaged in the post2015 development agenda and took the initiative to start the Civil Society Platform to Promote Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Beyond 2015, a global advocacy initiative uniting 10 SRHR networks representing over 2,000 nongovernmental organizations worldwide. In 2019, special attention was given to the 25th anniversary of the ICPD Programme of Action.
Currently her team is comprising 10 staff, working on advocacy at national, regional and international level. The Right Here Right Now programme is the biggest programme within the team, running for five years (2016-2020). It is a global strategic partnership, envisioning a world where all young people are able to access quality and youth-friendly health services, and are not afraid to openly express who they are and who they love.
Yvonne has a degree in non-western sociology, and worked in development cooperation in Indonesia and India.
